PROGRAM STRUCTURE

In the first half of the program, Weeks 1-5, students will learn fundamentals in their chosen area of interest and academic writing skills. In the second half, Weeks 6-11, students will finalize their research topic, conduct, and write their original research paper (10-15 pages).

 

Week 1-5 | Faculty to student ratio: 1:3

 

Mentor-led group sessions

  • Weekly live mentor sessions 1.5-2 hours

  • Learn fundamentals in your chosen area of interest

  • Gain insight into your mentor’s research area

  • Group discussions & PBL sessions

  • Spend 8-10 hours per week reading and researching independently

Writing course

  • Bi-weekly live sessions 2h

  • General and academic writing skills

  • Dedicated writing coaches

  • Writing support throughout the program

 

Week 6-10 | Faculty to student ratio: 1:1

 

Mentor-led 1-on-1 sessions

  • Weekly 1:1 live mentor session 1h

  • Choose a research topic, outline paper, evaluate reading material & resources, receive guidance on conducting and writing research

  • Spend 12-14 hours per week reading, researching, editing, and writing

  • Review research paper first draft

Writing course

  • Bi-weekly live sessions 2h

  • General and academic writing skills

  • Dedicated writing coaches

  • Writing support throughout the program

 

Week 11 | Independent work

 

Final research paper

  • Additional week to polish, edit, and finalize research paper

  • Support by the Writing Center to ensure timely completion

Additional workshops

  • Presentation skills by Professional Senior Designer 1h

  • Formatting research paper by Writing Center 1h

 

PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS

  • Students are expected to participate for the entirety of the program, i.e., 11 weeks, without missing a single online session as there will not be an alternate slot to catch up.

  • Students are expected to spend approx. 10-14h per week in total, attending online sessions, reading, researching, writing, and editing. 

  • Students are required to have good speed internet, functional webcam on their system, and a good pair of headsets for all the online sessions and access to the internet for the entirety of the program.

 

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

Original research project

Students will work 1-on-1 with their research mentors to choose a research topic, conduct, and write their research. The final project, a 10-15 pages college-level research paper!

Writing skills

Students will learn the art of communicating their research by taking part in the writing center’s general and technical writing sessions. The writing center will also conduct workshops on improving your essay and interview skills for college admission.

Mentorship

Students will interact with their mentors every week not only to gain academic knowledge but also to utilize this opportunity to understand their choices from a college major or a career perspective.

Publication *

Outstanding research papers will be published in our internal Research Discovery journal made available on the website after completing the program. We encourage the submission of exceptional work for external publication.

Letter of recommendation

Mentors will write LoR for outstanding students during college admission. We request all students to give your mentors 3-4 weeks advance notice from when the LoR is due to write a good recommendation. For more info, please write to the program director,

Further Research

Some of you may get the opportunity to continue working with your mentor beyond the program term. This is entirely at the discretion of the mentor, and students are requested to fill out the consent form, which will be made available on request. For more info, please write to the program director,
